Upper Secondary Chemistry is the stage where your child shifts from learning facts to applying them under exam conditions. School pacing rarely leaves room for the deep practice this requires, especially when concepts like Redox, Electrochemistry, and Organic Chemistry stack up in the final term.
As per the latest Ministry of Education (MOE)/Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB) syllabus, students are expected to handle topics with strong conceptual understanding and the ability to interpret unfamiliar data, making focused, exam-aligned preparation more important than ever.

At TLS Tutorials, our Secondary Chemistry tuition is built for this stage. We teach through our Meta-Cognitive Learning Approach, where students are coached to plan an answer before writing, monitor their work as they go, and reflect on the gap between their solution and a full-mark response.
Through our programme, your child will:
Upper Secondary Chemistry is where many students hit a wall. Concepts turn abstract, answers need proper wording, and Paper 2 requires on-the-spot thinking. For many Secondary 3 and 4 students, this is where confidence in Science begins to slip.
Many Chemistry concepts take place at the particle level, such as ion formation, electron transfer, bonding, and chemical reactions. Students may know what they observe in an experiment, but struggle to explain why it happens chemically.
Chemistry papers often include observations, tables, graphs, and investigation results. Students need to identify patterns, make deductions, and link evidence back to the correct concept instead of simply recalling memorised notes.
A question may look like it is testing one topic, but actually requires ideas from another. Students need to recognise what the question is truly asking, select the correct concept, and explain each step of their reasoning clearly.
What most students need is not more notes, but a tutor who teaches them how to think through a chemistry question and structure a full-mark answer.
At Secondary 3 and 4, students are guided to understand how to approach Chemistry questions, so they can move from recalling key concepts and equations to handling Paper 2 problems.

Students learn to apply concepts to single-step questions using clear, repeatable methods. At this stage, they build procedural accuracy with familiar Chemistry problem types, such as balancing chemical equations, drawing dot-and-cross diagrams, performing basic mole calculations, and identifying ions using qualitative tests.
Students are guided to handle multi-step questions in Secondary Chemistry that require linking more than one concept together. In our tuition, this develops their ability to work through calculations that combine mass, moles and volume, or to interpret a series of qualitative analysis observations to identify an unknown compound.

Students learn to approach unfamiliar, data-based and non-routine O-Level Chemistry questions with confidence. They are trained to recognise the question type, select the right problem-solving strategy, adjust their approach when the context is new, and present their work in a logical, complete manner that meets the SEAB 6092 marking requirements.
Our Secondary Chemistry tuition prepares students to handle increasingly complex O-Level questions with accuracy.
Focus Area | How We Develop It |
|---|---|
Skills We Develop | Students are trained to read each question carefully, identify which Chemistry concept is being tested, and apply the correct method. Emphasis is placed on writing balanced equations, observations and answers in the exact phrasing examiners reward and on choosing the right approach when faced with unfamiliar Paper 2 contexts. |
How Lessons Are Run | Lessons begin with guided examples before moving into independent practice. Students learn to annotate key information in the question stem, organise each step of their working clearly and use tools such as oxidation-state ladders, mole maps and qualitative analysis flowcharts where appropriate. Feedback focuses on method choice, accuracy and exam-style precision. |
Examination Alignment | Our programme follows the SEAB 6092 syllabus and O-Level paper formats. Students are trained to recognise common question types across Papers 1, 2 and 3, avoid common slips such as missing state symbols or unbalanced equations and complete timed practices to build performance under exam conditions. |

Jai Panchmatia2026-01-15Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I joined TLS quite late in the school year. Roughly around 5 months before my O level exams. At first, I was only doing physics with Mrs Esther, however, after 2 weeks with her, I had made the decision to do chemistry lessons with TLS as well. When I first went in, I was very worried because my chemistry and my physics were sub-par at best and was nervous that I wouldn’t be able to learn and prepare all I would need in time for my o levels. I was wrong. Firstly, the environment that TLS creates for students to work is amazing. It’s calm, quiet and allows us to easily focus on whatever we are doing. Moreover, the teachers at TLS are exceptionally nice and supportive people that give you the time patience and understanding that you need. Secondly, to do with the tutorials itself, not only are the tutors very kind, but they are very thorough and extensive in helping us understand what we are lacking and what we require help with. Their materials are amazing and they also made a very enjoyable experience to simply be in the classroom and learn. Besides academics however, TLS also does a wonderful job at ensuring we stay organised and on top of our work, with a comprehensive study plan as well as many files and binders to neatly keep or work in. I saw that this truly helped my studying and my academics as generally, I am a very messy and disorganised person. Overall, TLS has been able to help me in multiple ways. Within the span of four months, I was able to catch up on everything I was missing, they helped me start scoring better gradually as I continued to do mock test papers, and with their help, I was able to stay on top of everything with wonderful organisation and amazing planning done by the admin team. The centre is filled with amazing teachers, with their teaching being top-notch and their kindness and care for our well being also being a priority to them. Thanks to TLS, my physics and chemistry grades rose from a D7 and F9 in prelims to an A2 and B3 in the o levels, respectively. My sincere thank you to the entire TLS team and a special thank you to Mrs Esther for her dedication and support for my o levels. veleda simp2026-01-14Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. amazing tuition centre with perfect vibes and an amazing awesome teacher who coached me in amath Dasha Lee2025-12-12Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Teachers here are kind and understanding, they are adaptable and are able to adapt their teaching style to help me with understanding content. Would highly recommend people to join their classes. Karin Kan2025-08-02Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My P6 daughter started math tuition at TLS this year and enjoys coming to class each week. She says this is her favourite tuition class. Ms Esther and Abel have periodically run diagnostics tests on her math abilities which really help in identifying the areas where she needs to work on. I see her math grades improving and am hopeful she will do well in the PSLE. Tania Han2025-07-31Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My daughter enjoys her lessons at TLS Tutorials which is specifically tailored to her syllabus based on her needs by Teacher Esther. The class is small, personable and conducive for learning and interaction with the teacher. The learning experience coupled with the very warm and supportive TLS team make us feel welcome right from the start ! summer yeo2025-07-31Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. good tutors that teach well 👍🏻 Kenny Chen2025-07-31Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I couldn’t recommend them more highly. Most tuition centres are about revision, homework and test preparation TLS does that and more; they have monthly diagnostics test and check ins with the parents which is helpful for us to understand our children’s progress. Most importantly through these interactions, you feel they truly have the heart for your kids not just academically but also for their well being ! James S2025-03-11Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We've seen a complete transformation in our daughters' attitude towards Maths since they started tuition here! They now look forward to their Maths lessons, which is a testament to the engaging and effective teaching methods used. We're grateful for Ms Giana's dedication and passion for teaching Maths and Abel's passion for caring for the students. Highly recommend!

Your child is taught to plan, monitor and reflect on every answer, the skill that O-Level Paper 2 data-based questions require.
Our centre is within walking distance of Newton MRT, with easy access from across central Singapore.
Lesson duration: 2 hours (including 10-minute break)
Class size: 1-4 students
Topics below follow the latest MOE/SEAB Pure Chemistry Syllabus (6092) and the MOE Combined Science (Chemistry) syllabus.
Foundations & Bonding
Redox, Periodicity & Energetics
Calculations & Acid-Base
Sustainable World & Revision
We sequence topics so each one supports the next. The Particulate Nature of Matter comes first because later topics build on particle behaviour. Chemical Calculations are introduced early to strengthen the Mole Concept before Acid-Base, Redox, and Qualitative Analysis. Organic Chemistry is taught in the final term as it brings together bonding, energetics, and reactions covered earlier.
These are the skills and techniques that secondary students will hone when they enrol in our Chemistry tuition centre.
Develop the habit of asking, “What is this question really testing?” before writing. Strengthen the ability to spot patterns, draw inferences, and reason through unfamiliar contexts.
Move beyond plugging numbers into formulae. Your child will learn to set up mole-ratio calculations, interpret titration data, work out percentage yield and purity, and check answers for chemical sense.
Handle questions that combine Stoichiometry with Acid-Base, or Redox with Qualitative Analysis, without losing track of the steps. This is the skill that separates A1/A2 students from B/C students.
Master the language of Paper 3: clear observations, fair-test reasoning, suggested improvements, and the right command-word responses. No marks lost to vague descriptions.
Use the precise vocabulary the examiner expects (state, describe, explain, deduce, suggest) and present work that the marker can follow without effort.

By providing a supportive learning environment, our Chemistry tuition enables secondary students to overcome challenges and excel in their academic pursuits.
Typically, each Chemistry tuition session lasts about two hours. However, the duration may be extended to help increase the students' attention span. Each lesson usually includes a 10-minute break. The break allows secondary students to recharge and consolidate their learning.
A standard class schedule will be issued to the parents of each secondary student at the start of every month. The Chemistry tuition slots are given based on the availability indicated by the student.
Our Chemistry tuition programme emphasises a deep understanding of concepts over rote memorisation. We also use a metacognitive approach to help secondary students make sense of complex chemical ideas and solve problems effectively. Plus, our teaching methods are designed to be interactive, encouraging students to actively engage with the material and develop critical thinking skills essential for O-Level Chemistry.
Our Secondary Chemistry tuition programme is built around the Meta-Cognitive Learning Approach, which trains your child to think through O-Level questions rather than memorise their way through. Classes are capped at 4 students, so misconceptions are spotted and corrected in the same lesson. The curriculum follows the latest MOE syllabus and is designed to progressively build a strong understanding of core Chemistry concepts.
The tuition fee for Chemistry lessons at TLS Tutorials varies based on the student’s needs and class arrangements. Please contact TLS Tutorials directly for detailed fee information and a full breakdown of the fee structure.
